A World Where You’re Not Mine

By Olivia Onyekwena

Long live these memories
in the distance between then and now
the pages before the book ends
I pretend to not see your face
from across the sidewalk
same old goofy smile
never changing
never fading
worth a thousand little stars
flickering off to the celestial height
but again I call you best friend
in a world where I need you to be mine
but I never say
and you never ask
so these rollercoaster moments continue
