Voices

By Fabrice Poussin

A dialogue began in the depth of a mind
two exchanged mysterious sounds in the dark
charmed with the unexpected encounter.

In an icy palace with infinite ceilings
they stole each other’s gaze in a flash
ignored the multitude caught up in a waltz.

Echoes of millennium upon those walls of mirrors
voices emerged in incomprehensible tongues
yet this was home to the life-long friends.

They dreamed of a life on the outside
beyond the vision of this strange creature
a little boy in silly shorts teasing her pigtails.

Soon they would grow to understand their role
continue the same game with the passing days
in the house of those troubling thoughts.

I listened to them playful inside my head
and smiled at the tickling their little steps made
upon the walls of my latest fantasies.

Uncaring for their differences they embraced
gleeful on the wings of uncommon freedom
and I celebrated the spirits of a perfect couple.
